Public Act 093-0942 "The Right to Breastfeed" Act (2004)

Protects a mother’s right to breastfeed her baby in public. A mother may breastfeed in any location…where the mother is otherwise authorized to be…A mother who has been denied the right to breastfeed by the owner or manager of a public or private location…may bring a court action and…may be awarded reasonable expenses of litigation.

Public Act 092-0068 Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act (2018)

An employer shall provide reasonable break time each day…to express breast milk…for one year after the child’s brith. An employer may not reduce an employee’s compensation for the time used…for expressing or nursing a baby. An employer shall provide reasonable break time…unless to do so would create undo hardship. An employer shall make reasonable efforts to provide a room…other than a toilet stall, where an employee can express her milk in privacy.

Public Act 100-0029 Lactation Accommodations for Students (2018)

Illinois public schools are required to provide accommodations for a lactation student to breastfeed her baby. Breastfeeding students may not incur an academic penalty…and must be provided the opportunity to make up any work missed.

Public Act 094-0391 Exempts Nursing Mothers from Jury Service (2006)

The Jury Act was amended to include: “any mother nursing her child shall, upon request, be excused from jury service.”

Breastfeeding is Not Indecency (1995)

Breastfeeding of infants is not an act of public indecency.
